FAIRLAWN, Ohio - It's a real Cinderella story; after nearly closing its doors, the old nursing home on Ridgewood Road in Fairlawn needed some serious upgrades, both aesthetically and operationally. Foundations Health Solutions, Ohio's largest nursing home operator, purchased the property in 2019 and began making changes. In just a few short years, the property has completely turned around.
The facility, now named Timberland Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, just completed a rigorous Ohio Department of Health survey without any deficiencies. That is no small feat for any skilled nursing facility, let alone one that was on the nation's Special Focus Facility (SFF) list, under its former operator, just several years ago. The SFF list, which is distributed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), identifies the five properties per state with the worst survey scores, star ratings, and care outcomes.
"Turning around a special focus building is a tough task, but the team we have in Timberland Ridge was obviously up to it," said Joe Altieri, Vice President of Business Development with Foundations Health.
"When our founder Brian Colleran said he wanted to save that building for the Greater Akron community, I knew we could do it with the right investments in our people and the property."
Foundations Health made an impact at Timberland Ridge, which features 75 units for older adults who need skilled rehabilitation services, long-term care, dialysis services, secure memory care, or ventilator care services, by completely remodeling the property. They also added specialty care services such as an on-site dialysis unit and a ventilator unit to ensure the various healthcare needs of the community were met.

"It was most important to invest in the people," said Yashica Banks, Director of Nursing at Timberland Ridge and long-time Foundations Health employee.
"The staff here made the place what it has become, which is a premier destination with proven quality care."
As a private, locally-owned business, Foundations Health Solutions understands that keeping resources within the community is the best way for all to grow and develop.
"We have created a quality, comfortable place for people in the Akron area to get rehab in a private room, with no agency staff, and now a perfect state survey record," said Brian Colleran, founder and president of Foundations Health Solutions.
"I'm glad we didn't give up on this location, and I know our residents and their families are happy about it too."
Foundations Health Solutions, which is based in North Olmsted, Ohio, is privately owned, and is founded on core values of compassion, integrity, and empathy. Foundations Health Solutions is driven by its Culture of Care mentality.
